Neighborhood

Cherington sits on the northern edge of the Cotswolds, a quiet limestone village beside the River Stour where honey-coloured cottages, a thirteenth-century church and a welcoming village pub set the tone. With a population of only a couple of hundred, it remains genuinely unspoilt, the kind of place where the loudest sound is birdsong and the countryside rolls away in every direction. It shares its lanes with the neighbouring hamlet of Stourton, and footpaths lead straight from the village into open farmland, including a gentle three-mile circular walk through Cherington and Stourton. Close to home, the Cherington Arms pours a well-kept pint, while the Cotswolds Distillery, Whichford Pottery and The Straw Kitchen café are all within easy reach. For eating out, local favourites include The Norman Knight and The Bower House. For all its seclusion, the cottage is far from cut off. The handsome market town of Shipston-on-Stour is around three miles away, with independent shops, cafes, butchers and a good choice of pubs and restaurants. Beyond it, the wider Cotswolds open up: Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Norton, Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold offer antique shops, farm shops, galleries and some of the prettiest high streets in England, while the picture-postcard village of Bibury and Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon make for memorable days out. Additionally, Daylesford Organic Farm, Soho Farmhouse and Blenheim Palace are all within reach for a special outing. Families are well catered for too, with Cotswold Farm Park, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Fosseway Play Barn among the attractions nearby. It is a base that balances real countryside calm with easy days out, equally suited to lazy mornings and proper exploring.

Guest Access

Guests have exclusive use of the entire property. The home is fully private and accessed via self check-in, allowing you to arrive at a time that suits you. A small number of storage areas remain locked, but there is ample space throughout the house and annex for personal belongings.

A car is the best way to enjoy this corner of the Cotswolds, and there is private parking at the cottage. The surrounding lanes are quiet and the villages, market towns and walking trails are all an easy drive away, with Shipston-on-Stour around three miles off for everyday essentials and a wider choice of destinations within twenty to forty minutes. If you prefer to arrive by train, the nearest station is Moreton-in-Marsh, roughly seven miles away, which sits on the Cotswold Line with direct Great Western services to London Paddington via Oxford. From the station it is a short taxi ride to the cottage. Local bus services connect Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour, though they are limited in the evenings and on Sundays, so a car is strongly recommended for making the most of your stay and reaching the more out-of-the-way villages, pubs and viewpoints. Once you have arrived, much of the pleasure here lies close at hand, with footpaths leading directly from the village into the surrounding countryside.
